All government teachers in Kenya are employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Therefore, as a government teacher, the only way to get your payslip is, well, through the TSC portal – commonly known as the TPay system. Luckily, this is a relatively straightforward process that can be done in minutes. Here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to access one’s TSC payslip online.
Note that, in a 2016 circular, the TSC stated that it will no longer issue hard copy payslips in order to harness the potential in information, communication and technology.
What is a TSC Payslip?
A TSC Payslip is a document issued by the Teachers Service Commission in Kenya to its employees i.e. Kenyan public school teachers. Government teachers of all levels from primary school, Junior Secondary School (JSS), and secondary schools are all entitled to a monthly payslip which typically comprises details like:
- Gross Salary
- Pay as You Earn (PAYE)
- Pension deductions
- KNUT or KUPPET deductions
- NSSF, SHIF, and Housing Levy deductions
- Any loan standing charges…among other details.
You may need a payslip to apply for most loan facilities offered by financial organizations like banks, SACCOs, or lenders like Platinum Credit and MOGO. Financial institutions typically use the strength of your pay cheque to determine how much financing you qualify for.
Other uses of payslips include: personal financial planning, verification of deductions, and tax planning purposes.
Accessing Your TSC Payslips Digitally
If you have never used or registered on the TPay system before, the first thing you need to do is visit your local county TSC ICT office with your national ID card. Each county has an IT officer from the service commission who will help onboard you into the system.
Once your account has been activated, you’ll receive an email with account activation instructions namely your username and a temporary password.
From here you will need to activate your account and also validate your mobile number and email address. Finally, you’ll also need to upload your profile photo.
PS: Your TPay account can only be activated after you have received your first salary from the TSC.
